Discusses digital versatile discs (DVD) and asks if corporate Britain should accept them now or wait until they have proved themselves. Reports that in spite of its capacity advantage, there has been no rush by companies to adopt the new technology, and that this is mainly due to uncertainty about the next generation of rewriteable drives. Looks at the three options in this respect, DVD-Ram, DVD+RW, and DVD-RW, noting that DVD-Ram is the most established of the three. Compares the development of DVD with the history of CD identifying several similarities. Concludes on an optimistic note predicting a healthy future for DVD as disc capacities increase and standards are established.
